Teachers, Community Members
Tap into our Speaker’s Bureau of Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) speakers for your classroom or organization!
Advantage to Inviting an RPCV Speaker
Inviting a RPCV into your school or organization offers a unique perspective into other cultures and societies. Requests for speakers are fulfilled throughout the year with a particular emphasis during Peace Corps Week (February 23 - March 2, 2009). We fulfill requests for speakers from a variety of organizations from schools and civic groups to places of worship and businesses.
What would a talk be like?
Speakers can offer a variety of talking formats to be age-appropriate and reflect the interests of your audience. In some cases people prefer a presentation whereas in others there is more of a discussion. Most talks involve a variety of styles.
Does it cost anything?
All speakers are volunteers and speak on their own free time, so there is no cost or obligation on your part.
How can I book a RPCV speaker for my classroom or organization?
If you would like to have a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer talk to your class or organization, please contact
Anna Omura at speakers@barpcv.org. Please try to give as much advance notice as possible of your event (a month is ideal). Please include the following in your email:
- Your name and contact information
- Organization for which you would like a speaker and description of audience?
- Time(s) and date(s) you are interested in hosting a speaker

Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs)
Be a speaker in a local school or organization!
Email Anna Omura at
speakers@barpcv.org to join the Speakers Bureau Listserve. Most times people ask for any volunteer, but for those times where specific regions, specialties or areas are requested, we try to focus the emails sent out. When you join, please include:
- Your name
- Country of service
- Years served
- Field/work done while volunteering
In general you will be asked to discuss your experiences as a Peace Corps Volunteer including your work, your daily life, the life of those in your country/village and general stories. Photos, slideshows and items from your country are always appreciated.
We have a number of opportunities coming up in the next two months. BARPCV contacted the Girls Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts to offer speakers for their World Thinking Day events. Although many of these opportunities are beyond the Boston public transportation limits, the BARPCV has other transportation options if you are willing to take the time out of your schedule to speak!
Thank you.
